January gets it's name from, the latin "Ianuarius" meaning wolf-month. January is also named after Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and transitions. Traditionally, the original Roman calendar was 10-months long starting with March, and winter was considered a month-less period. In 713 BC, the successor of Romulus, King Numa Pompilius, is supposed to have added the months of January and February, so that the calendar covered a standard lunar year.
January is COLD. So cold in fact, that of the winter months, it takes the cake as the coldest (at least in the U.S.) That being said, January all together makes us think of resolutions, celebrations, and freezing temps.
